Run your Xibo® CMS on BrightSign® players
Xibo® doesn't ship a BrightSign® player. XiPlay is it. A commercial player that speaks XMDS, renders the full Xibo® widget set, and turns solid-state BrightSign® hardware into displays on your existing Xibo® network.
XiPlay is a professional digital-signage player for BrightSign® hardware, fully compatible with Xibo® CMS. It implements Xibo®'s XMDS protocol (v3 and v4), so a BrightSign® player running XiPlay registers in your Xibo® CMS as a normal display, with the same layouts, schedules and display groups you already use.

The two ecosystems don't otherwise meet: Xibo Signage Ltd. ships players for Windows, Android, Linux, webOS and Tizen, but not BrightSign®, while BrightSign® hardware is the de-facto standard commercial signage appliance. XiPlay exists to connect them, so you can keep the CMS you know and run it on hardware built for the job.
Why BrightSign® hardware for Xibo® signage?
Purpose-built, solid-state
No fans, no spinning disks, no consumer OS underneath, just a signage appliance designed to run 24/7 behind a screen, silently.
Capabilities Android boxes lack
Genlock frame-accurate video walls and HDMI-In passthrough are hardware features of BrightSign® XT-series players, and XiPlay exposes them to your Xibo® layouts.
One SD card is the install
XiPlay ships as an SD-card package. Copy, insert, power on. No OS to maintain, no app store, no sideloading.
Which BrightSign® model for which job?
XiPlay supports the XT, XD, HD and LS series. One license unlocks the same full software on all of them; what differs is what the hardware can do.

How XiPlay connects BrightSign® to Xibo®
Xibo® players talk to the CMS over XMDS, the protocol that registers displays, fetches layouts and media, and reports back. XiPlay implements XMDS v3 and v4 natively on BrightSign®, and renders the full Xibo® widget set: text, images, video, web content, RSS, weather, HLS and live streams, multi-zone layouts and interactive touch layouts.
- 1
Prepare an SD card
XiPlay ships as a single downloadable package. Extract it, copy the files onto the card, insert it into the BrightSign® player, and power on. That is the whole installation.
- 2
Point it at your Xibo® CMS
Enter your Xibo® server address (and CMS key if required). The player registers as a display over XMDS and starts pulling your existing layouts and schedules.
- 3
Claim it and license it
The player shows its hardware MAC on screen. Claim it by MAC in the XiPlay portal, place it on a site, and assign a license. Every new device starts with a 14-day full-feature trial first.

Built for signage that can't go dark
Offline-first playback
Content is cached on the player. A network drop pauses the refresh, never the screen.
Offline signage →Frame-accurate video walls
BrightSign® sync groups drive multi-screen walls from your Xibo® layouts, with genlock on XT.
Video walls →Air-gapped licensing
Signed offline license files activate players on networks with no internet at all.
Air-gapped signage →Coming from Xibo® for Android or Windows players?
Your CMS side doesn't change. Layouts, media, campaigns, schedules and display settings stay exactly where they are. A migration is swapping the box behind the screen. Load XiPlay onto a BrightSign® player, point it at the same Xibo® CMS, authorize the new display, and retire the old one. Because it's per-display, you can migrate screen by screen rather than estate-at-once, running both player types side by side on the same CMS during the transition.
Xibo® + BrightSign® questions
Does Xibo® run on BrightSign® players?
Not out of the box: Xibo Signage Ltd. does not ship a BrightSign® player. XiPlay is an independent commercial player that runs on BrightSign® hardware and speaks Xibo®'s XMDS protocol (v3 and v4), so BrightSign® players appear in your Xibo® CMS as normal displays.
Do I need to change my Xibo® CMS or content?
No. XiPlay works with your existing Xibo® server, layouts, schedules and display groups. The player registers as a display over XMDS, so there is no migration and no lock-in on the CMS side.
Which BrightSign® models does XiPlay support?
The XT, XD, HD and LS series. Capabilities follow the hardware: 4K on XT/XD, HDMI-In and genlock video walls on XT, Full-HD playback on HD and LS.
Why choose BrightSign® over an Android box for Xibo®?
BrightSign® players are purpose-built, solid-state signage appliances: no fans, no rotating storage, no consumer OS underneath. They are the de-facto standard commercial signage player, and XiPlay is how you drive them from a Xibo® CMS.
How is XiPlay licensed?
Per device, keyed to each player's hardware MAC. One license unlocks the complete software (video walls, HDMI-In, interactivity, HLS, every widget) with no tiers or add-ons. Choose monthly, annual, or a 2-year plan per device, with volume discounts from 10 devices. See Pricing for current rates.
Does it work without internet?
Yes, twice over: content is cached, so screens keep playing through network drops; and fully air-gapped networks are supported through a signed offline license file that never phones home.
Is XiPlay affiliated with Xibo® or BrightSign®?
No. XiPlay is an independent software product compatible with Xibo® CMS and BrightSign® hardware. Xibo® is a registered trademark of Xibo Signage Ltd.; BrightSign® is a registered trademark of BrightSign LLC.
