Frequently asked questions

Xibo® compatibility, licensing, supported players, offline behavior and pricing, answered. Still stuck? Book a demo and ask us directly.

Does it work with my Xibo® CMS?

Yes. XiPlay is a BrightSign® player compatible with Xibo® CMS. Point it at your existing Xibo® server and it works with your current content, layouts and schedules. XiPlay is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Xibo Signage Ltd.

What does a license include?

Everything. One per-device license unlocks the complete software: video walls, interactivity, HDMI-In, HLS and every widget. There are no tiers, no add-ons, no Standard/Pro split.

Do I need a Xibo® license pool for BrightSign® players?

No. XiPlay licenses each BrightSign® player directly, by its hardware MAC, so there's no Xibo® license-pool code to enter. A Xibo® license pool applies to Xibo®'s own commercial player apps (Android, webOS, Tizen and ChromeOS), and BrightSign® isn't one of those, so XiPlay provides the player and its licensing instead. Your content still comes from your own Xibo® CMS over XMDS exactly as before, and XiPlay's per-device license is separate from, and independent of, whatever CMS licensing you already run. One XiPlay license unlocks the full software on that device, verified by a signed on-device verdict rather than a periodic pool check.

Which players are supported?

BrightSign® solid-state players: the XT, XD, HD and LS series. The license is keyed to each unit's real hardware MAC address.

What happens when a device is offline?

It keeps playing its last content. The screen never goes black; only the content refresh pauses until the connection returns.

Can I deploy on an air-gapped network?

Yes. We issue a signed offline license file for sites with no outbound internet (government, secure retail).

Does it support video walls?

Yes. Frame-accurate sync groups drive multi-screen video walls, and each screen needs its own license. BrightSign® sync has requirements: all players in a wall must be the same BrightSign® model family, on a wired network, running the same firmware, with matching resolution and frame rate. Genlock and 4K depend on the BrightSign® model. See the Players & hardware docs for the full list.

Can I manage screens across multiple sites?

Yes. The players portal organizes devices by site, group and tag, with role-based team access, health and last-seen, across hundreds of screens from one console.

What happens after the 14-day trial?

The screen keeps displaying its last content but stops pulling new content until you assign a license. It never goes black. Assign a license and it resumes immediately.

How is it priced?

Per device: monthly, annual (two months free) or a 2-year plan (our best value), in USD and EUR, with volume discounts. See the Pricing page for current rates.

Is there a free trial?

Every new device runs the full software free for 14 days, no card required.

Can I change or switch my plan?

Yes. Add or remove seats, or upgrade to a longer term (monthly → annual → 2-year), at any time; seat and upgrade changes are prorated automatically. Moving to a shorter term takes effect when your current term ends, because a longer prepaid term is a commitment for that term.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel from the customer portal whenever you like. Cancellation stops future renewals; your licenses stay active until the end of the term you've already paid for, then they lapse. Unused time isn't automatically refunded.

Do you offer refunds?

Cancelling stops renewals but isn't a refund; paid periods already started are non-refundable except where required by law. Prepaid annual and 2-year plans may be refunded within 14 days of purchase if the devices haven't been deployed. Offline (air-gapped) licenses can't be revoked once issued, so that seat isn't refundable for the rest of its validity. See our Refund Policy for the details.

Who builds and supports XiPlay?

XiPlay is built and supported in-house, serving customers worldwide.

Does Xibo® ship its own BrightSign® player?

No. Xibo Signage Ltd. publishes players for Windows, Android, Linux, webOS and Tizen, but not for BrightSign®. XiPlay is an independent commercial player that fills exactly that gap: it speaks Xibo®'s XMDS protocol, so BrightSign® hardware appears in your Xibo® CMS as a normal display.

Which Xibo® versions does XiPlay support?

Xibo® v3 and v4. XiPlay implements both generations of the XMDS protocol, so it works with your current CMS and keeps working when you upgrade.

Do I have to migrate my content or rebuild my layouts?

No. Your layouts, media, campaigns, schedules and display groups stay exactly where they are. A migration is swapping the box behind the screen: copy XiPlay onto a BrightSign® player's SD card, point it at the same Xibo® CMS, and authorize the new display. You can migrate screen by screen and run both player types side by side during the transition.

Does my content pass through XiPlay's servers?

No. Content flows directly between your own Xibo® CMS and your players. XiPlay's platform handles device licensing and fleet management only. It never sees, stores or proxies your media. On an air-gapped deployment there is no network path for it to.

What happens to my screens if XiPlay stops trading?

They keep playing. Players cache their content and honor their last license verdict, and an issued offline license file stays valid for its full term with no callback to us. Activation was deliberately designed so your screens never depend on our cloud staying up, or on us existing.

What do I need to set up a player?

A BrightSign® player (XT, XD, HD or LS), a class-10 or faster SD card of 16 GB or more, a computer with an SD-card reader, and network access to your Xibo® CMS. Extract the downloaded package, copy its contents onto the card, insert it and power on. That is the whole installation. No flashing or imaging tool is needed.

Can one player drive more than one screen?

Yes, on a multi-output BrightSign® player. Models with two or more HDMI outputs can drive several independent screens from one box, and each output is its own display in your Xibo® CMS, with its own content, schedule and orientation (up to four, depending on the model). Single-output players drive one screen. Each independent output is licensed like a standalone player, so a four-screen box uses four licenses; it saves hardware, not licenses. This is different from a video wall, where several screens show one synchronized image.

How do I move a license to replacement hardware?

Unassign the license from the old device in the portal and assign it to the new one. Licenses are keyed to each player's hardware MAC, so an RMA or refit is a portal action rather than a new purchase.

Is proof of play supported?

Playback reporting flows back to your Xibo® CMS over XMDS, so proof-of-play data is produced and reported in Xibo® exactly as it is for any other Xibo® display. XiPlay is the player, and your CMS remains the system of record.

How does XiPlay recover a frozen player?

A self-healing watchdog on the device detects a stalled player and recovers it automatically, with no site visit. The portal's health and last-seen view shows that it happened and confirms the player came back.
