Licensing

Per-device, full software, keyed to the hardware and offline-safe.

How per-device licensing works

Each player is licensed by its real hardware MAC address. The cloud issues a cryptographically signed verdict the player verifies on-device, so a license can't be forged or copied to another unit.

  • One license unlocks the complete software: no tiers, no add-ons.
  • The verdict is cached on-device, so a brief cloud outage never freezes a paid screen.
  • Only a positive 'unlicensed' result ever stops a screen, and only after a grace window.

XiPlay licensing vs Xibo® license pools

If you run Xibo®'s own commercial players (Xibo® for Android, webOS, Tizen or ChromeOS), you license them through a Xibo® license pool: a pool code entered in the player's settings and re-verified roughly every 30 days. BrightSign® is not one of Xibo®'s commercial player platforms, so that pool model doesn't apply to it.

XiPlay is the player for BrightSign®, and it carries its own licensing. Instead of a shared pool code, each BrightSign® device is licensed directly by its hardware MAC, and the player verifies a cryptographically signed verdict on-device.

  • No pool code to copy into player settings; you claim each device by its MAC in the XiPlay portal.
  • Licensing is per device and keyed to the hardware, so it survives reboots and SD-card swaps.
  • The signed verdict is cached on-device, so a brief outage never freezes a paid screen, instead of a hard periodic pool check.
Note: This is licensing for the player software only. Your content, layouts and schedules still come from your own Xibo® CMS over XMDS. XiPlay's per-device license is separate from, and independent of, the CMS you already run.

Assign & unassign a license

From the Players view, assign a license to a device and it flips to licensed within one check (or instantly with a push). Unassign it and the device returns to its demo or expired state.

Offline / air-gapped activation

For sites with no outbound internet (government, secure retail), we issue a signed offline license file for a known MAC. The player activates purely from that file, with no phone-home required.

Note: Offline licenses carry a finite term; renewal is a re-issued file. The file can't be forged, copied to another unit, or edited.

Renewals & billing

Licenses are sold per device as a monthly, annual, or 2-year subscription; longer terms lower the per-month price. Manage plans and invoices from the billing area; any applicable taxes are applied at checkout.
